…and it was gone, seemingly as quickly as it had arrived. The page turned on his ordinary life, bringing a new week. Gone was the weekend, the time of respite, the sunshine, the time to think carefree thoughts. “They say life is short,” he mused to himself, thinking back to just a few minutes ago, as a lady crossing the street out of turn, absorbed in the pale lettering on her cellular phone screen, who would have been far worse off had the driver not been so observant. Thinking back to days gone by, he remembered friends he used to have and the times they used to share. Times hopefully not past yet.
These thoughts occupied him while he walked down the street, past the pedestrians and the traffic lights. He rounded the corner, under the overcast sky, and opened the door to his apartment complex.
“I wonder if I have mail today…”
